Candidates who consider studying at PSW in Biała Podlaska should send email to Erasmus coordinator at Pope John Paul II School of Higher Education in Biała Podlaska. Then you will be emailed information at a later date regarding the list of required documents (e.g. Transcript of records, copy of passport or ID card, Learning Agreement). 

 

 

The Erasmus Coordinator will guide you through the application and admission procedure. Once your admission is finalized, Erasmus Coordinator  will contact you directly and provide with more detailed information regarding accommodation, orientation programme, etc.

1st JUNE – for Fall semester

1st NOVEMBER – for Spring semester.

 Coming to Poland – formalities

If you are an EU / EEA student, you only need your ID document (e.g. identity card or passport) to enter Poland. If you are planning to stay for longer than three months, you need to register at local province administration office (Urząd Wojewódzki). For that you will need to submit specific documents required by the relevant office and in return you will receive a document confirming your right of residence in Poland. One of the preconditions for obtaining the right of residence is the possession of health insurance (e.g. the European Health Insurance Card).

If you come from a non-EU / EEA country, you should check with your local Polish consulate what documents apart from passport (e.g. visa) you need before you leave for Poland. If you obtain a visa, you will need to register your stay after your arrival.

 Medical care
In order to get  free medical treatment in Poland EU/EEA students need to have the European Health Insurance Card (EKUZ) which they apply for in their home country. Non EU/EEA students need to purchase a private health insurance policy.   

 Money

The Polish unit of currency is złoty. The exchange rate for euro is approx. 4 PLN. In most shops and restaurants you can pay with credit cards. There are also plenty of ATM`s where you can withdraw cash.

 General services and facilities

There is a huge range of private flats or rooms which are available for students. If you are interested in private accommodation, please contact with Erasmus Coordinator.  Most rented accommodation is furnished, although the standard of furnishing will vary. Rents can range from 250 PLN per month upwards for room in a flat being shared by 3-4 other people, excluding electricity and heating. A deposit equal to one month`s rent is usually required.  

 Library

All registered students are entitled to use and borrow from the library. The library offers: a reading room, 53 computer workstations with wireless Internet access; a multi-media reading room equipped with computers and scanners; a library and a reading-room for students of Institute of Neophilology; and a section which files and categorizes the library's collection. 

 Computing services

All students have access to high-speed Internet, computers and an email account. There is a ‘Telecenter' on the premises of the School. Being equipped with 30 computers with the access to the Internet, scanners, printers, copying machines, it provides its services to both students and local people. Also the School uses the Integrated University Management System which provides the virtual dean's office and multi-media kiosks located on its premises. The facilities of wireless Internet connection have been offered so that more and more laptop users have access to the Internet.

 Sports facilities

Each student is obliged to participate in physical education classes. Students have the option to attend in many form of physical activity, e.g. basketball, volleyball, fitness, swimming, horse riding lessons.

 Meals at PSW

There are two canteens in the main building. Lunch costs about 5-15 PLN,  sandwich 3 PLN, snacks 2-5 PLN. Canteens are open from 8.00 am to 4 pm.

Academic calendar

The academic year has two semesters. Winter semester starts  from October to mid-February and summer semester: from mid-February to the end of June. There are no classes during Christmas – they resume after New Year’s Day. Also there is a short one-week break between the winter and summer semesters. The summer holidays last 3 months.

• 11th of November  – Independence Day

• 6th January  – Epiphany

• March/ April– Easter

• 1st May 2011 – Labour Day

• 3rd May 2011 – Constitution Day

•  June  – Corpus Christi

• 15th August 2011 – Assumption Day.
